For most of the last decade, commerce has been organized around a simple assumption: if every tool optimizes its own objective well enough, the whole stack improves.

I've seen firsthand, for over a decade, why that breaks.

At Amazon, I led product on the homepage — the most valuable surface in commerce — where every internal program competed for the same customer moment, each optimizing for different outcomes. By building a coordination layer, we found the impact was far larger than anyone expected.

At Kohl's, I saw the same pattern at the stack level: search, ads, promotions, loyalty, personalization — each best-in-class, each unaware of what the others were doing.

That was the insight.

Commerce does not have an intelligence problem. It has a coordination problem.

The last decade of commerce technology was about making each tool as smart as possible. The next decade is about getting them to work together.

Search got smarter. Pricing got smarter. Personalization got smarter. But there is still no conductor.

And as AI turns software into agents — each making faster autonomous decisions — that gap compounds.

I believe coordination becomes a foundational layer of the modern commerce stack, much as databases, payments, and search became foundational in prior eras.

That belief is why I started AIORA.

We're building for a future where optimization is not siloed, but harmonized — where systems can reason across tradeoffs in service of the customer and the enterprise.

Some companies will add more tools.
